Sacramento County deputies are probing a gunfire incident that erupted on April 18 2026 at Howe Community Park in the Arden-Arcade area just as Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies were dispersing an unauthorized event of several hundred people.
Prior to the Shooting
Law enforcement were first dispatched to Howe Park just after 6:30 in the evening after receiving reports of individuals possibly carrying concealed weapons. Shortly after, a second caller reported describing a reported physical confrontation occurring at Howe Park.
A law enforcement helicopter conducted an aerial sweep but was unable to locate the reported altercation. Regardless, it was evident that a massive group had come together at the location without official sanction.
When the Shots Rang Out
Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies started clearing the unauthorized gathering by forming a perimeter and making announcements telling the assembled crowd to leave immediately. Nearly 15 minutes were allowed for attendees here to disperse.
Just as the crowd began to move that 20 to 25 rounds of ammunition were discharged. The rapid succession of shots sparked chaos as hundreds ran. Deputies immediately began searching for victims.
Four Gunshot Victims
Altogether, four victims were located with gunshot injuries. All four — including a female and three males all believed to be in their early to late twenties — were transported to local Sacramento hospitals. Emergency physicians confirmed that two had critical injury classifications, one sustained moderate wounds, and one sustained minor gunshot wounds. Fortunately, each of the four victims was stable.
Sacramento fire crews also responded and helped triage shooting victims on location.
The Investigation
The main crime scene was determined to have occurred along the Cottage Way side of the park next to the Home Depot at the 2200 block of Howe Ave. Law enforcement investigators located further ballistic evidence in the form of shell casings on the Cottage Way roadway. Bullet holes were noted in the metal fencing bordering the nearby Home Depot. The physical evidence confirmed that at least one of the shooters had been sending rounds south from Cottage Way aimed at the Home Depot. The store itself was placed on lockdown as a precaution. Forensic investigators and law enforcement detectives worked tirelessly throughout the night.
Suspects Detained
Intelligence received through law enforcement radio communications confirmed that a suspect Kia had been detained in nearby Solano County. Four detainees were held for questioning. Sacramento law enforcement were traveling to Solano County to collect the individuals for formal questioning. Footage analyzed by investigators revealed that the shooting involved two separate gunmen.
